With 17 school districts across our city, we owe it to our children, their families, and our community to rise above differences and work together to ensure the safety and well-being of every student. Schools must be a safe space for all students and their families. The promise of safety knows no boundaries—every child and family deserves to feel secure and supported.

City government has a crucial role to play as a convener, bringing together school districts, public safety experts, and community partners to develop unified solutions.

Here are our key action points:

1. School Vulnerability Assessments

Collaborate with all 17 school districts to conduct comprehensive security assessments, identifying risks and gaps unique to each campus.

Ensure every school develops and maintains actionable Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) to safeguard students, staff, and visitors during emergencies.

2. School Infrastructure Safety

Prioritize safety enhancements around schools by:

Support the citywide implementation of the Stop the Bleed program, ensuring every school is equipped with life-saving bleeding control kits and trained staff to respond to emergencies swiftly. The city must support oversight and confirm implementation of annual training and adequate resources.
